Week 2 Summary

21 Sep

Week 2 was interesting and confusing and overwhelming all wrapped into one. I don’t even know where to start with all of the information that I just absorbed.

We learned a lot about color this week and I didn’t realize how much thought actually went into picking a color. Who knew that companies chose certain colors to target certain customers or to make people react in a certain way. When I was younger, I was told that red was an intimidating color. That’s why when you played sports teams with the uniforms that were black and red you were more intimidated than playing a team with blue and orange. I never actually put much thought into it until now.

RED — stimulates adrenaline and blood pressure, exciting, dramatic, rich and of course, it’s the color of passion.

ORANGE — active, energetic, promotes happiness, represents sunshine, enthusiasm, and creativitiy, informal (less corporate), and great for promoting food and cooking.

YELLOW — active, highly visible, associated with happiness, and can be overpowering.

GREEN — associated with nature, soothing, symbolizes growth, freshness and hope, easy on the eyes, and represents wealth, stability and education.

BLUE — universally favorite color, symbolizes openness, intelligence and faith, calming, found to reduce appetite and can be seen as bad luck and trouble.

PURPLE — associated with royalty and power, represents wealth and extravagance, and connected with flowers, gem stones and wine.

WHITE — perfection, light and purity.

BLACK — negative connotations such as death and evil and can be the color of power, elegance and strength.

I found these to be very interesting. I never really put any thought into how certain colors make me feel and how I react to them. To be honest, I usually associate color with food. Not exactly sure why… Red Apple, Yellow Banana, etc…
